Legal, Government, Medical and Business Interpreter Services
Hiring an interpreter involves more than finding someone who speaks the language you need. You want to know that they understand your industry and can interpret to it and its nuances intelligently. Our certified interpreters can navigate the needs of the court/legal, general business, government and healthcare/medical fields.

Court/Legal Interpreters

Court interpreters are needed in civil and criminal legal proceedings. Their ability to interpret complex legal procedures and vocabulary, without changing the speaker’s legal register, is crucial.

Typically, they interpret for a witness or defendant who speaks or understands little or no English, while also representing legal professionals with advanced degrees. Court interpreters may appear at an arraignment, motion, pretrial conference, preliminary hearing, deposition or trial. They may also be asked to translate written legal documents on the spot.

In some cases, a state may require that only court-certified and/or trained interpreters participate in legal proceedings.

CTS LanguageLink has partnered with many law firms who depend on our professional legal interpreters for state and federal legal proceedings, depositions, and on-the-spot sight translations of highly confidential material.

General Business Interpreters

The American melting pot is brewing with record numbers of foreign-born residents. According to recent U.S. Census Bureau statistics, more than 37.5 million people fall into this category. Further, more than fifty percent of this population is considered limited-English proficient (LEP)—a group that is four times more likely to purchase products and services from companies that speak their language. The need for reliable business interpreter services is undeniable, both locally and globally.

Our business interpreters are experienced and available to meet a broad range of needs for different sectors, including financial, insurance, telecom, utilities, manufacturing and transportation. They’re also able to step in as extensions of your corporate call center and Help Desk team.

Government and Official Interpreters

Federal laws like Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Executive Order 13166 dictate that LEP individuals in the U.S. have meaningful access to government programs and activities. Whether these individuals are applying for driver’s licenses or need help with their taxes, they must be able to access official interpreter services in their native language, free of charge.

CTS LanguageLink has helped numerous federal, state, county and city agencies bridge the language gap with their LEP clients. Our services have included work for the following:

  • Court & Attorney General: court-certified government interpreters
  • Department of Health: patient care, Title VI compliance, field outreach
  • Department of Human Services: in-office assistance; outreach; Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC); Family Services
  • Department of Labor: Worker’s Comp, personnel, human resources, employment centers
  • Department of Motor Vehicles: driver’s tests and licenses
  • Department of Transportation
  • Protective & Regulatory Agencies: field outreach
  • Department of Revenue: tax filing help, revenue collections, forms
  • Emergency Services: Homeland Security, disaster relief, fire and EMT services
  • Education: school districts, state universities
  • Police Enforcement: 9-1-1 call centers

Healthcare/Medical Interpreters

Qualified medical interpreters can mean the difference between life and death in some cases.

Historically, well-meaning family members and friends may have stepped in to help loved ones make decisions about their diagnoses, symptoms and treatment plans. Their lack of training, confidentiality and medical vocabulary put patients at risk.

Today, regulatory agencies, such as the Office of Civil Rights (OCR), The Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and Medicare, require adherence to standards for medical interpreters, privacy requirements and accessibility guidelines, including HIPAA and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. At CTS LanguageLink, we are committed to ensuring our medical interpreters meet these standards and provide a professional, trusted link between medical professionals and LEP patients.
